RE at Springfield
At Springfield, our primary objective in Religious Education (R.E) is to ensure children gain knowledge and understanding of a range of religions. It is in the hope that pupils would use this knowledge to engage in informed and balanced conversations about religion and beliefs.
Religious Education curriculums are devised by local councils and we follow the Berkshire syllabus. Each Key Stage looks at Christianity each year followed by another religion from either Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism.
There is a two-year rolling programme to ensure that children can revisit a religion and develop their understanding to ensure continuity and progression during their time at primary school.
Parents have the legal right to withdraw pupils from RE in England. We ask that this is discussed with the Head teacher initally and then if a parent chooses to go ahead and withdraw their child from RE a formal written request should be made. The withdrawal of a child from RE lessons should be the last resort as RE is an important part of learning and understanding about the world and community.
