PE at Springfield

As a school, we are proud of our achievements in PE and sport.

At Springfield Primary School we are passionate about sport and this is reflected in the many sporting activities, events and competitions that we take part in throughout the school year and our achievements including trophies won and being awarded a Gold School Games mark regularly over the last few years

Our aims for Physical Education

  1. To provide appropriate, stimulating and challenging learning situations through which the children will be able to experience enjoyment and achievement.
  2. To promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles by encouraging positive attitudes towards health, hygiene and fitness.
  3. To develop a pupil’s self-confidence and realise the physical potential through:

a) developing competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

b) being physically active for sustained periods of time

c) engaging in competitive sports and activities

d) leading healthy, active lives

Planning / Teaching and Learning

We have a PE Curriculum map which balances all the required subject areas (Games, Gymnastics, Dance, Outdoor Adventurous Activities, Athletics and Swimming). Physical Education is taught in school by teaching staff and by visiting coaches and specialist teachers. We have a 2-year curriculum map at our school. We support the delivery of PE through the use of Getset4PE planning and specialist teacher planning.

All the children in the school take part in intra-school sports events We aim to get as many of our children involved in inter school competitions as we can. Last year, 90% of our KS2 children represented the school in an inter-school sporting event
