PE at Springfield

As a school, we are proud of our achievements in PE and sport.

At Springfield Primary School we are passionate about sport and this is reflected in the many sporting activities, events and competitions that we take part in throughout the school year and our achievements including trophies won and being awarded a Gold School Games mark in 2019.

Our Vision for Physical Education

  • To continually engage our pupils in regular physical activity inspiring them to succeed and excel
  • To use PE to build confidence and acquire knowledge and skills
  • To further raise the profile of PE
  • To celebrate participation and our successes.
  • To increase our participation in competitive sport
  • To develop positive attitudes resulting in a willingness to persist with physical activity throughout life.

Aims

Our aims are to:

  1. To provide appropriate, stimulating and challenging learning situations through which the children will be able to experience enjoyment and achievement.
  2. To promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles by encouraging positive attitudes towards health, hygiene and fitness.
  3. To develop a pupil’s self-confidence and realise the physical potential through:

a) developing competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

b) being physically active for sustained periods of time

c) engaging in competitive sports and activities

d) leading healthy, active lives

Planning / Teaching and Learning

We have a PE Curriculum map which balances all the required subject areas (Games, Gymnastics, Dance, Outdoor Adventurous Activities, Net and Wall games, Athletics, Cricket and Swimming). Physical Education is taught in school by teaching staff and by visiting coaches and specialist teachers. We have a 2 year curriculum map due to the 1.5 form intake at our school. We support the planning of PE with Getset4PE planning, the REAL PE teaching resource and specialist teacher planning accessed through Hampshire PE.

Over the few years we have been awarded two gold school games awards and one silver award to recognise our commitment to school sport.

During the year, we were delighted with the fact that 90% of our KS2 children were given the opportunity to represent the school in an inter-school sporting event and take part in a sports club at school.

All the children in the school took part in four intra-school sports events representing their house group. These covered a range of sports and activities.

This year, we are once again working hard on our sporting initiatives. We have received a total of £18560 and have using it to help improve school sport, physical activity and PE lessons in a number of ways.
