West Berkshire Health and Wellbeing in schools Award

We have improved the physical and mental wellbeing of the children using the outdoors and the daily mile in particular. This award is from the local authority and it will be renewed by us every three years. Increasing the amount of physical activity and introducing the daily mile was the main feature of this award for us to improve children’s fitness levels. We focused on increasing the amount of time children are physically active within the school day.

Implementing the daily mile using the running track was a key factor as well as increasing the number of lessons involving the outdoor space and physical activity. We are always looking at ways to work on increasing the number of sport activities for children to take part in during the school day including lunchtime clubs when available. We continue to also focus on the 5 steps to well-being and these are taught within the curriculum we offer.
