WELCOME TO EYFS

Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The Foundation Stage at Springfield consists of Foundation 1 (our 3 to 4 year olds) and Foundation 2 (our 4 to 5 year olds). The children are split into 3 age related groups – Tawny Owls, Snowy Owls and Owlets - but we enjoy working together as one whole unit.

The Foundation staff work with all the children throughout the week.

Tawny Owls: Mrs Bourne/Mrs Saunders and Mrs Hajdari

Snowy Owls: Mrs Prosser, Mrs Day and Mrs Cox

Owlets: Miss Bristow and Mrs Spence

Mrs Somerville, Mrs Jardine and Mrs Hajdari also work within the unit every Wednesday morning. Mrs Somerville will also join us at other times throughout the term.

PE in EYFS

P.E. days are as follows:

Tawny Owls – Fridays

Snowy Owls and Owlets am and pm – Tuesdays

Please ensure P.E. kit is sent into school in readiness.

Monkey-Do Monday

Please send the children to school wearing the appropriate outdoor clothing.

We’ll let you know in the bulletin when we are going to start both Monkey-Do and P.E.

Autumn Term in EYFS

We begin the autumn term in Foundation with a focus on the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ We will be learning to retell the story, follow and create our own maps and go on a bear hunt ourselves!

We follow this with the topic ‘People Who Help Us.’ Each week we will be finding out about different people who help us such as doctors and nurses, the police, fire fighters and vets. We will look at books, go on the internet and hopefully invite people in to talk to the children in order to extend the children’s learning in all areas of the curriculum.

Finally, we look forward to reading the traditional tale ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and enjoying lots of different activities based on this story.

Other Information

We will be sending library books home each week on a Tuesday for you to share, enjoy and discuss together at home.

When we begin phonics handwriting sheets will also be sent home for the children to practise their letter formation.

Sometimes we’ll ask the children to research a topic at home and share what they have found out with their peers in school.

If you have any questions or concerns please do speak to a member of the Foundation team and we’ll do our best to help.

We look forward to a busy and fun-filled term
